Dr. David Samadi was born in Persia. He and his family members had to flee Persia after the Iranian revolution, when it became dangerous for Jewish people to live there. He went to New York, and from an early age, he knew that he wanted to be involved in medicine. He got his MD from Stony Brook School of Medicine. He went on the develop the SMART technique, which is creating a revolution in how prostate surgery is performed. SMART stands for Samadi Modified Advanced Robotic Treatment. He said he always wanted to help people as a doctor, and that when he got into prostate surgery, he wanted to find a way to make it better. His unique robotic method helps people get rid of prostate cancer through surgery that is a lot less invasive. He also helps people detect prostate cancer.
However, while he was working at Memorial Sloan in 2000, he learned about this new robotic technique that was being done for other kinds of surgery in France. He flew there to help them develop this technique, and he came back and started using it for prostate surgery. This caused him to become very successful and very famous. His new SMART method was desired by many men when it came out, holding many men who had avoided prostate surgery because of the side effects it sometimes brings, like impotence and incontinence.
He also gets a lot of patient referrals, simply because of the excellent way he treats patients. For example, he is available to them via cell phone at all times of the day and night.
