Following intense scrutiny from the federal agencies, the cost for designing and construction of the center has escalated to $119.5 million. The initial goal of the campaign was to raise a total of $125 million. The amount will be set towards expansions and initiates programming with that will be distributed $100 million and $25 million respectively.

 

Money is still being poured in to facilitate the campaigns goals, with Carlyle Group Co-Founder and chairman of the Kennedy Center board of trustees, David Rubenstein setting the highest donation at $50 million in 2013. Dick Devos and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation alongside other donors contributed $1 million to boost the facility.

 

According to the president of Kennedy center, Deborah Rutter, the expansion and Riverwalk will act as a new front door to for the center as the arts destination.
