Is there anyone who has not felt a ripple from the heavy stone-drop of cancer? Breast cancer, lung cancer, there are so many different kinds of cancers and multiple millions have been afflicted. Some are lucky and win their battles, other succumb to the evil that we cannot quite grasp.

The world of cancer treatment is about to change thanks to Tempus, a firm co-founded by the co-founder of Groupon: Eric Lefkofsky. He is leading the way into an innovative new world where health records are taken much more seriously and cared for the way they ought to be treated.

Basically, the molecular and clinical data of every patient will be effectively analyzed by the platform developed by Tempus. Also created was software that processes natural language and has optical character recognition capabilities. These allow for texts containing notes to be transformed into structured data; this will then be used to advance cancer treatment and care.

One may wonder why this is all important; human genome-sequencing, so what? Well it is of utmost importance because those in the field could be able to unlock secrets to defeating cancer and other such illnesses once there is more information with which to work.

Eric Lefkofsky was born in Southfield, Michigan in September of 1969. Having graduated in 1991 with high honors from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and proceeding forward to earn his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School, Lefkofsky has surely done more than most can even hope to achieve all before the age of fifty years.

Most of Eric Lefkofsky’s time is spent in the Chicago area, where Tempus is headquartered. He spends his time serving on the boards of directors for Lurie’s Children’s Memorial Hospital and the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as being chairman of the Board of Trustees of Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Over the course of the years, he has held teaching positions at different schools. Truly an inspiration and a leader to change the way cancer is killed.
