George Soros Donates An Amazing $18 Billion To Help Those In Need

Few people in the world have donated as much money as George Soros has to help out people in need and minorities who are struggling in parts all over the world. While many people greatly appreciate everything the man has done, there are some who just won’t let him be. The amazing thing is that these people do not target his political contributions but focus their vitriol on his charitable donations. Who are these people you may wonder? Well, they are right wing conspiracy theorists who are certain that Mr. Soros is the evil puppet master that they imagine him to be.

In the process of pointing their finger at George Soros, they have accused him of funding the Black Lives Matter Movement, Colin Kaepernick’s NFL protest, the Antifa movement, and the Women’s March. When Soros donated $18 billion recently to the Open Society Foundations, a charitable organization that he heads up, the right-wing conspiracy theorists came out in force. Unfortunately, part of what is feeding these accusations is a political climate that has created a huge divide in the United States. While Soros is the clear target in this day and age for the polical right, philanthropists have long been the target of people’s fears.

The United States has always welcomed philanthropists, but the definition of the word has been changed over time. Originally, it was a word that described a person who promoted equitable values that were to the benefit of everyone. As time went on the word began to refer to reformist causes and those who promoted them. Eventually, in the 1800’s it began to be used to describe people or corporations that gave on a large scale, and industrial giants and other wealthy leaders were among those that people called philanthropists.

In the “Capitalist Threat,” which is an article that George Soros wrote that was published by The Atlantic, Soros revealed that the idea for the name of charity, Open Society Foundations, came from a book that Karl Popper wrote in 1945. In his book titled “The Open Society and Its Enemies,” Popper demonstrated that authoritarian ideologies have one thing in common and that is that they assert that their the version of the truth is only truth. In an open society, Popper reasoned that no one group would have rights to claim that they hold the only truth. He also discussed the fact that authoritarian governments or groups who do have always been at the root of oppression and abuse. He reasoned that there is a need in our world for institutions that help people to live with one another in peace and harmony.

George Soros was inspired by the message of the book, and so he named charitable organization which works for the betterment of humankind the Open Society Foundations. Thanks to him and his charity, countless people have been able to live a better life. While right-wing conspiracy theorists continue to hatch up new story-lines that promote their beliefs, Mr. Soros continues to make the world a better place by donating more and more of his money to real people in need.
