Thor Halvorssen Carries On With His Passion For Human Rights

International human rights and philanthropic activist. Thor Halvorssen has taken it upon himself to advocate for democracy, civil liberties as well as the rights of individuals.

He is also a film producer and makes use of film as a means to demonstrate human rights issues and build an understanding for the public to observe and respect those rights.

Thor Halvorssen has produced several feature documentaries, with a focus on human freedoms, which include Freedom’s Fury and Indoctrinate U.

As a result of his dedication and commitment to human rights, he became a civil liberties activist in 1989 by leading the resistance to South African apartheid.

He was also instrumental in establishing and developing the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) as its first executive director.

The civil liberties organization, FIRE is a non-profit organization that is committed to free speech, individual liberty as well as religious freedoms.

As a humanitarian, Halvorssen functions as the president and chief executive officer of the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) and the Oslo Freedom Forum.

The HRF promotes basic human rights for everyone in every country with a focus on reform and promotion of freedoms, such as speech and religion.

Halvorssen founded the non-partisan HRF in 2005 as a non-profit charity and plans to continue his work for all persecuted and victimized people worldwide.

The Oslo Freedom Forum brings together human rights advocates, artists, technology entrepreneurs and others working toward expanding freedom on a global basis.

Halvorssen is also a writer and his opinions have come into sight in Time Magazine, The Washington Post, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. He has appeared on CNN, Fox News Channel, BBC News and additional outlets.

What’s more, he has lectured on the subject of human rights at Harvard Law School, the United Nations Association and at the British parliament.

Halvorssen attended the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with honors with undergraduate and graduate degrees in political science and history.
